Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Abhishek Banerjee, General Secretary and MP of Trinamool Congress (TMC) has voiced his continued support for the doctors' concerns regarding safety and security. In his latest post, Banerjee emphasized that while he acknowledges the validity of most of the doctors' concerns, progress is being made to address these issues as directed by the Supreme Court and outlined in the Government of West Bengal’s (GoWB) recent submission.
Banerjee highlighted that measures to improve safety, including the installation of CCTV cameras and infrastructure upgrades in medical colleges and hospitals across West Bengal, are underway and expected to be completed within 14 days. Additionally, the government has acted on the demand for transfers of certain top officials in the Health Department and Kolkata Police, as confirmed by the Chief Minister in a recent media address.
As a gesture of goodwill, Banerjee urged the doctors to consider calling off their strike and work collaboratively with the GoWB. He emphasized the importance of expediting the implementation of the task force’s initiatives to ensure prompt execution of the promised changes.
Furthermore, Banerjee called for accountability from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), criticizing its record of incomplete investigations. He stressed that swift punishment for perpetrators is crucial, stating that “justice delayed is justice denied.”
